Anatoli Boukreev approaches our High Camp during his speed ascent. Toli used our permit but climbed alone, going from Advanced Base to the summit and back again in one day. He had just climbed Broad Peak and the trail was already broken but 7,350 feet (2,240m) of altitude gain in one day is still impressive. Unfortunately, Toli was killed by an avalanche a few months later on Annapurna.
